Late Messi strike downs 10-man Real Madrid, Barcelona go top of La Liga

Lionel Messi scored with the last kick of the game, as Barcelona defeated arch rivals Real Madrid 3-2 in a fascinating El Clasico fixture on Sunday night.

Madrid took the lead through Casemiro, who bundled in Sergio Ramos’ effort.

Messi equalized for Barca, with a typically mesmeric run and finish, before Ivan Rakitic gave the Catalans the lead for the first time in the game, with a stunning left-footed drive into the far corner.

The hosts levelled again, despite having Sergio Ramos sent off for a two-footed tackle on Messi, with substitute James Rodriguez touching in Marcelo’s cross.

With the game ending for a draw, Messi blew the La Liga title race wide open again, with a sublime finish in the second minute of added time.
