The Fall Of Buhari and APC

Image
I extend to President Muhammadu Buhari my warmest sympathies on his sick bed. It is a measure of the fragility of our democracy that an elected President insists on hiding his frailty from the people who are compelled to pay for his treatment abroad.  There is no hiding place in the constitution. Nonetheless, President Buhari is scheduled to return to Nigeria tomorrow.  He will be welcomed with at least one Lagos street protest that the police are trying to muzzle.  That would be another self-inflicted injury, and I urge Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to tell them to back off and go pursue Lagos’ many criminals. I reiterate that it is a shame and an embarrassment that despite Mr. Buhari’s promises and posturing for many years, he sees no irony in running off to the United Kingdom for his medical needs, leaving behind the nation’s most expensive (and presumably best-equipped) publicly-funded clinic in the presidential palace. This fact underlines a ...

Image
Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh FORMER National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has said that the rejection by the House of Representatives of the Bill for Establishment of South East Development Commission does not demonstrate the desired spirit of national accommodation and sensitivity towards the people and problems of the South East zone. Metuh said this on Sunday through a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen, just as he commended the South East caucus of the National Assembly for bringing the needs of the region to the front burner. According to him, it is also heart-warming to note that a good number of lawmakers from other geo-political zones supported the bill, describing the gesture as a “laudable act, showing that other regions are beginning to appreciate the issues related to the developmental predicaments of the South-East.” ...

Fayemi’s two years as minister a waste to Ekiti‎ – Fayose

Image
Governor Ayodele Fayose has asked the people of Ekiti State to ask his predecessor, Dr Kayode Fayemi what he has done with his position as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the last one and half years. Fayose insisted that Fayemi, who is the Minister Mines and Steel Development, had not impacted positively in the State, particularly in helping to tap the huge mineral potentials of the State as a man superintending over the Ministry. He also dropped a bomb shell that critical stakeholders loyal to Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi’s group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will defect to another party, if Senator Ali Modu Sheriff wins the appeal pending at the Supreme Court. The Governor said these on Wednesday while interfacing with youths between ages 18 and 22 at the government’s house ground in Ado Ekiti. Fayose said his predecessor was holding the ministerial position in trust for the people of the State, adding that Fayemi had ‎allegedly failed to use the...

The APC Chairman insisted that everybody in the party and not a particular individual aided his emergence. According to Oyegun, “Everybody assisted me to this position and I am grateful to all of them. The only thing is my personality and integrity; I don’t joke with these two things because they are the only currency that I have and I will defend them at any time. “I don’t believe one particular person solely assisted me to this position, everybody assisted me and someday, the story of how I became chairman of APC will be ...

Taraba PDP distances self from Sherrif, Makarfi crisis

Image
TARABA State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Victor Kona has said the state chapter of the party remained neutral in the current leadership tussle at the national level, but chose to concentrate in consolidating the party’s position in the state. Kona disclosed this to newsmen yesterday during an interactive session at the party’s secretariat in Jalingo. According to him, the party has chosen to stay neutral in the face of the crisis because taking sides with either of the factions will simply mean inviting the crisis to the state, thereby dividing the party in the state and giving the opposition a chance to operate. “In Taraba, I can assure you that there is no crisis in the PDP. Our concern is to continue to consolidate the party’s position in the state and that is what we are doing. In the face of the crisis we won rerun elections for House of representative and Assembly seats and clear all the chairmanship seats in the just concluded local go...
